Steel mezzanine floor with column supports and balustrade in a UK warehouse unit

Designed and built in one workshop

A mezzanine is one of the few projects where buying parts from different suppliers nearly always goes wrong. The deck doesn't quite meet the stair, the balustrade was specified to the wrong height for the loading, the column baseplates aren't where the slab can take them. We avoid all of that by designing, fabricating and installing the whole thing in one place.

The team surveys the unit, designs to your layout and loading requirement, and then builds the platform, stairs and balustrades together. When the install crew turns up, they're installing parts that have been pre-fitted in the workshop against each other.

What's covered

  • 01. Site survey and designWe come in, measure the headroom, locate the column footprints against the slab, and design to the load you need — pallets, office, retail, plant.
  • 02. Engineered to specDrawings issued by our level 5 engineering team and fabricated to those drawings — so the structure is sized properly and signed off.
  • 03. Integrated staircasesStraight, dog-leg, switchback or full spiral, with mild steel risers or chequer plate. Designed against Part K where applicable.
  • 04. Balustrades in-houseThe balustrade run around the deck and up the stairs is fabricated in the same workshop, in the finish you choose. Heights and infills designed against use.
  • 05. On-site buildThe structural elements come to site and we put it together — usually inside a working week for a single-bay mezzanine. We work around your operations where we can.

Where mezzanines work

Warehousing units that need storage doubled without an extension. Retail spaces that need an office or back-of-house mezzanine. Industrial plants where a maintenance platform needs to land above equipment. Light commercial where a second floor adds usable space within the existing envelope.

The advantage is always the same: a mezzanine is faster, cheaper and less disruptive than building outwards or upwards. When it's designed and built by one team, you don't end up with the gaps between sub-contractors either.
